It’s been said that in real estate, the most valuable asset is the location. You can have identical properties, but one is worth much more because of its proximity to the beach, good schools, or other desirable infrastructure. However, there is a time when location does not matter.
I was listening to a speaker recently, and some of the things he was talking about sent me down a rabbit hole that I’d like you to visit with me. Suppose I am preaching in a church and pause to curse God. I continue to preach for a while and pause again to take His name in vain, then I continue speaking. Would you be okay with that or begin to grumble a bit? What if I were to ask a young couple up on stage and have them take off their clothes? How long would it take for you to shout that it’s not okay, it’s sinful behavior, or stand up and walk out? I’m guessing not very long unless you fail to act out of fear, shock, or even indifference. However, 12 hours earlier, at the movie theatre, you paid money to watch people curse God, murder, lie, cheat, steal, and fornicate, and you called it entertainment. You adamantly would not be okay with your daughter or sister being stripped naked in front of the church, but you pay to see someone else’s daughter or sister naked on the screens of your home.
What God calls sin, is sin, regardless of its location and timing and the company you’re with (1 John 3:4). It does not matter if it’s at church on Sunday morning with your family, in a theatre on Saturday afternoon with your friends, or in the privacy of your bedroom, alone, on Friday night. What we pour into our eyes and ears and hearts is what will come out again (Luke 6:45).
“O be careful little eyes what you see. O be careful little ears what you hear. O be careful little tongue what you say. O be careful little hands what you do. O be careful little feet where you go. O be careful little heart whom you trust. O be careful little mind what you think. For the Father up above is looking down with love.” BE CAREFUL because location doesn’t matter!! O Be Careful song
